The quality of a product is one of the important aspects in industrial manufacture. To be able to control the quality of food product, the inspection of expiration date label should become one of the priorities, especially for package food product. Even so, the inspection is usually facing some obstacles and could not gain optimum result, due to limitation of human resources and lack of accommodation and transportation that could reach the inspection area. Based on the conducted survey and literature studies, the difficulty in reading a product expiration date and insufficient availability of digital devices, can cause problems for food security, such as health risk and food waste. This research aims to offer better solution for packaged food product inspection, through the use of computer vision technology. The detection method used for the inspection was a RGB color model detection from a color label, which then compared to real-time, which visually performed a new color that informed the user that the packaged food product will soon expired and need to be consumed earlier, or the product has already expired and does not allow to be consumed, and urged to be thrown away as soon as possible. An algorithm with numerical calculations was applied using Python program to build a comparison with real-time, and RGB value calculations. The research findings instill positive outcome that a visual detection using color label can be done and implemented for better packaged food inspection. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
